Southwestern Child Development is accepting applications for the position of Nurse Home Visitor for our Nurse-Family Partnership (NFP) Project.  This position will serve Haywood, Jackson, Macon and Swain Counties in North Carolina.  The NFP Project is an evidenced-based home visitation program for first time parents to help improve pregnancy outcomes, child health and development and self-sufficiency.   A desire to do home visitation, one-on-one intervention and working toward measurable goals are a must.  A Nurse Home Visitor is responsible for providing comprehensive nursing services to women and their families eligible for the NFP project including home visiting, providing education, support and referral resources in assisting women and their families in attaining their targeted goals, formulating nursing diagnosis based on nursing assessment and client goals, and working on teams. A Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing, current RN license in good standing and current CPR are required.  Two years recent experience in maternal/child health, public health, or mental/behavioral nursing are preferred but not required.  Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required as well as basic computer skills.  All applicants must have a valid NC Driver’s license and an insured automobile available for work.  Must be able to work a flexible schedule including some evenings and weekends and must be able to travel in the area and to out of state education sessions.  Competitive wages and the agency’s full benefits package are available.  This is a grant –funded position.

Work involves determining eligibility services for families who need assistance with child care arrangements. The position is located in Buncombe County. Ability to navigate through complex electronic eligibility system to input appropriately and accurately client eligibility information. To appropriately apply rules and regulations and often changing policies and guidelines pertaining to the child care subsidy program; ability to conduct interviews and interpret policies and procedures to people of varied social, economic, and educational backgrounds to obtain data for documentation and verification of information needed in determining eligibility; work with facts and figures and perform tasks involving a high degree of accuracy. Ability to work efficiently in multiple technology based systems. Ability to effectively interact with coworkers to accomplish common tasks and to have efficient and courteous interaction with customers.  

Minimum Education and Experience: A Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work or a related field is preferred along with experience working with early childhood and family programs. The Quality Enhancement Specialist position will provide technical assistance, support and encouragement to child care programs in the Region A service area to achieve higher star licensure and/or to improve licensure status and quality.  Applicants must have at least a Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, BK or related field and two years qualifying experience in an early childhood setting.
